The late Freddie Mercury of the British rock band Queen penned a prolific mock opera back in 1975 titled Bohemian Rhapsody. To say it’s a catchy tune would be an understatement.
Since it first tested the strength of my ear drums and radio playlists back when it was released, I haven’t been able to get it out of my head.
How about you?
IS THIS THE REAL LIFE? IS THIS JUST FANTASY?
A while back I started pinching myself as I began living inside Freddie’s lyrics while I boarded an Insight Vacations‘ business-class legroom motor coach as an imbedded travel writer on its abbreviated Bohemian Rhapsody journey through Prague, Vienna and Budapest.
EASY COME, EASY GO…A LITTLE HIGH, A LITTLE LOW…
Together with the intrepid “band of merry media” — a small army of international travel scribes and photographers — I experienced the “art of touring in style” on Insight‘s premier-escorted adventure through the Czech Republic, Austria and Hungary filled with signature moments, surprising flourishes and restful nights in five-star hotels.
SCARAMOUCH, SCARAMOUCH, WILL YOU DO THE FANDANGO?
You bet I did, right alongside the Habsburgs, as I crossed the Danube, rolled through the Wacha Valley and visited — AND SAMPLED — wineries and breweries; strolled through festive open-air markets and climbed the rocky paths to centuries-old castles upon high; devoured bowls of Gulyás with dumplings covered in paprika and raced through plates of sacher torte, strudel and Mozart kugeln; and, sipped countless glasses of Tokaji and Becherovka.
OH MAMA MIA, MAMA MIA, MAMA MIA LET ME GO…
You can Czech out my daily dispatches that I filed along the cobble of Bohemia as I got back on Insight’s motor coach for a symphony of sights, sounds and savors that rivaled Mr. Mercury’s mock opera.
Just click on the story links below and virtually travel back with me as I discover the rhapsody that is Bohemia.
BUON VIAGGIO!
