For me, one of the best parts of going on vacation is returning home, downloading all of the photographs I took and getting straight to work sorting through the frames: deleting some, adjusting others, cataloging the ones that survived the cut, and then selecting and filing only those that I deem blog-worthy for future posts about my travel adventures.

Saturated Summer Sojourns | ©Tom Palladio ImagesThis summer, I managed to go on three separate vacations — exploring southwestern France in search of joie de vivre, hiking around the “Rooftop of the Apennines” and discovering surprising Senigallia. Along the way, I delighted in lots of great food and wine, and capped my “Summer of 2013” by documenting my adopted hometown as it put its best foot forward during its lengthy festival that punctuates l’estate in the City of Palladio.

Armed with my full compliment of camera gear, including an iPhone 5, I captured some scenes that were just bursting — SATURATED — with bright colors. Here’s a sampling of some of the colorful shots from my recent summer sojourns. Just click on a frame for the full-screen view.

Tom traded his hometown St. Louis Cardinals' baseball cap in the United States for a Borsalino and he now hangs his "capello" in the Puglia region of southeastern Italy. A veteran print and broadcast journalist, with well-worn passports that have got him into and out of 49 countries and counting, Tom fell in love with the "Bel Paese" years ago. As he notes, "I'm inspired by the beauty I find in all things that are very, very old, and reliving history, or at least meandering along cobblestone streets that were laid down over a thousand years ago and just looking up and marveling at what occupies the space still today, really gets my 'Vespa' running." Tom has a good eye behind the lens and is a graphic storyteller, but he'll let you decide as he keeps his camera batteries fully charged and the posts flowing from his creative hideaway in the hills overlooking Ostuni. You can also follow his dispatches along the cobblestone via TravelingBoy.com.
