Ever since fellow blogger Orna O’Reilly and I tied the knot (one year ago this Sunday), packed up our belongings, hugged the Veneto for the very last time and bolted for Puglia, we’ve been mesmerized by the fantastic skies that seem to follow us no matter where we roam here on the spur of Italy’s stiletto heel.
Whether it’s sunrise or sunset, Mother Nature goes above and beyond her call of duty to paint beautiful pictures — oftentimes matching the shade of rosato wine in our glasses — for the camera lens.
Just about every day I grab my camera and rush out the door or step off the veranda of Villa Allegra, our little, bright-white house with Santorini-blue shutters tucked away in the Valle d’Itria in the Alto Salento, and fire away. I just can’t help myself.
Now after almost ten months of being bona fide Ostunesi — residents of the Comune of Ostuni, la Città Bianca (the White City) — I’ve stockpiled quite a few frames of our new, colorful surroundings situated not too far from where the Adriatic and Ionian Seas embrace. Here’s a sampling. Just click on any photo for the full-screen view.
No doubt, I’ll be capturing more scenics through my lens in the days, months and years to come as we stand back and watch the roots we’ve recently put down here in the Valle d’Itria take hold, become stronger and thrive under the Pugliese sky.

I love Puglia. Spent holidays there at all times of year for 25 years. Lovely people and beautiful landscapes. Great to read your stories.

It’s a very lovely, unspoiled part of the Bel Paese. Still rustic after all these centuries.

Thanks Karen. It’s quite nice over here in the Valle d’Itria. Slow life, slow food and slow sunsets.

My beautiful native Puglia is even more beautiful from the distance and oceans in between.
