Passeggiata Palladiana

With the start of the New Year now underway, I’m turning over a new leaf and will occasionally team up with Orna “Leafy” O’Reilly from Dublin, Ireland — host of Orna O’Reilly: Travelling Italy — to marry her original poetry with my photography, and, sometimes, vice versa. The end result is something we’re calling PHOETRY.

What follows is our first collaborative effort, Passeggiata Palladiana, about a recent passeggiata (stroll) through snow-covered Vicenza, Italy — the City of Palladio.

Passeggiata Palladiana

Vicenza this morning was sunny and cold
As we dressed in our warmest and went for a stroll.

The porticos uphill were laden with snow
And the view was quite stunning from Mont’ Berico.

The Jewel of Veneto’s snow-covered peaks
Look like panettone with frosting so sweet.

Next, down the scalette — just watch for the ice —
And to Villa Rotonda we walk in a trice.

White fields and black trees make the photographs pop
And Palladio’s masterpiece is where we stop.

Through the Valley of Silence, our next port-of-call
Is the Villa where nani perch high on the wall.

Across frosty cobble, past snow-covered gates
We return to the city: macchiato awaits!

  3. I enjoyed the collaboration and a beautiful way to explore an area. It came at a perfect time as I was considering visiting Vicenza on my upcoming trip in a few weeks to Verona. I had seen the Palladio, but hadn’t been to the city center and to visit the other villa.

  4. What a great idea – it works fabulously! Vicenza is on my list of places to visit so thanks for bringing it to life with your great phoetry – love it!

  5. What a wonderful idea! Now with the talents of both of you, we readers will benefit twice as much! Awesome and buona fortuna! Also Congratualtions on your nomination in the Italy Magazine blogger awards!
