Phoneographic Black Runs over White

Fresh off a ski week — no broken bones, in case you’re wondering — high in the Dolomites around the Val Pusteria of the Trentino Alto Adige region of northern Italy, my trusty iPhone 5 served as my workhorse lens in capturing some of the moments that were just too cumbersome to handle with my standard kit of DSLRs.

Phoneographic Black Runs over White | ©Tom Palladio ImagesGetting on and off chairlifts and funiculars, I didn’t have to struggle with a backpack to get to my gear. Nope, I just unzipped one of the pockets on my ski jacket, pulled out the handheld, framed the scene, locked in the AE/AF focus, and shot or panned away.

Quick on the draw, without the nifty iP5 I would’ve come back empty handed and you wouldn’t be able to head up and downhill with me, virtually.

If you’ll grab your gear, let’s relive some of those BLACK runs that I traversed over the powdery WHITE stuff. GERONIMOoooooooooooooo!

If you occasionally shoot with a smartphone or tablet, why not join in the fun and hone your craft. There’s a rotating Phoneography Challenge each and every Monday. For complete details, click on over to Sally’s Lens and Pens by Sally.

Until next Monday, let your phone be your lens.

  1. So glad that you returned to tell the tales. Enjoyed all of the images from your trip. They work so well in Black and White. Now more Italian cuisine please. Happy Phoneography Monday.

    1. Hi Sally — Just got back yesterday and have been culling through the 500 or so images I brought back. Don’t worry, there’ll be plenty of foodie frames. Now, let me head over to your site for my “thumbs up” verdict on your B&Ws. Ciao ciao.

    1. WLIAF — With layers of ski clothing, the cold weather wasn’t too bad to handle. You get quite a workout chugging down the slopes and easily work up a sweat, or, in your case, a glow. Thanks for the comment.

  2. The bottom panorama wins my vote as best shot. So glad you had fun and emerged unscathed. I haven’t been skiing for some years but I do love a good black run!
