My area code here in Italy is 0444, and it’s where I’m phoning in on my iPhone 5 the narrative and frames for this week’s Phoneography Challenge: MACRO.
I’m standing outside Vicenza’s Cathedral of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary, or il Duomo as most locals refer to this ornate house of worship.
Designed by architect Lorenzo of Bologna, construction of the Duomo began in earnest in 1482 and was completed in 1562. The cupola and the northside doorway were planned by Rennaisance master builder Andrea Palladio.
Like many of the iconic structures that dot the centro storico (historic center), the Duomo was nearly completely destroyed by Allied bombing raids over the city during World War II. When the rubble was cleared, only the original facade of the Duomo survived the attacks.
Today, now fully restored, the Duomo serves as the seat of the Bishop of Vicenza, who lives right across the street.
If you’ll lower your voice and mute the ringer on your cell phone, let’s go inside and take a look.

If you occasionally shoot with an iThingie, why not join in the fun and hone your craft. There’s a rotating Phoneography Challenge each and every Monday. For details, visit Sally’s Lens and Pens by Sally.
Until next Monday, let your iThingie be your lens.

Nicely captured for the macro challenge–like seeing the big and smaller views. Happy Phoneography Monday.
Thanks, Sally!
Is this the il Duomo referenced in Dan Brown’s “Inferno”? Or maybe that was Florence … either way, beautiful photos!
The duomo in Vicenza. 🙂
Hmmm… I think we are digital ring tone rather than dial tone shooters 😛 Lovely photos of the cathedral. I’m glad the facade survived. 🙂
Right u are; ringtone shooters going forward. Thanks for the edit.
