Red October Pizza: The Matt Adams

With the Jolly Roger flapping in the breeze inside Barbary Coast-like PNC Park, the Pittsburgh Pirates swashbuckled their way to a 5-3 win over my visiting St. Louis Cardinals in game-3 of Major League Baseball’s (MLB) National League Division Series (NLDS).

The Bucs now lead this best-of-five party 2-1 and have the Redbirds right where they want them: near the edge of the plank. Pittsburgh can wrap it all up in game-4 on Monday night. The first-pitch call is set for 3:07 p.m. ET on TBS.

For the game-4 lineups, and perhaps the last pizza in this series, here’s the PA announcer.

Like its namesake, Matt Adams, known as Big City by his teammates, this Red October Pizza has an urban grid of its own: a super-sized Piadina Romagna oval flatbread covered in creamy Stracchino cheese and Sicilian-style pesto sauce, and topped with sliced mushrooms, Milan-style hard salami, Brie and Gorgonzola cheeses, strips of grilled yellow bell peppers and toasted black olives.

And we’ll stay hydrated for every bite of the Matt Adams with a smooth and elegant French red: Chateau Cardinal Villemaurine’s 2010 Saint-Émilion Grand Cru, a Merlot-Cabernet Blanc blend.

Mmm. Let’s go to the “Big City” highlight reel.
