Just around the corner from Piazza dei Signori, Vicenza’s main square, and right across the way from my hat shop, Palladio Cappelleria, is Ristorante-Pizzeria Al Paradiso, a reasonably priced eatery in the centro storico (historic center) that offers outdoor dining while the good weather lasts.
Whenever I have a craving for an authentic, wood-fired pizza at night, Al Paradiso (literally and figuratively, To Paradise), for me, trumps all the other local pizzerias.
And, when I’m just too lazy to prep lunch, I’ll head “to paradise,” too, where one of the best waiters in town is stationed — Edison (no relation to Lightbulb Tom) — and let him suggest something off the menu that’ll satisfy my palate.
Today, it was a fresh, perfectly grilled piece of pesce spada (swordfish). Fitting, when you consider Al Paradiso sits on the corner of what used to be the city’s old fish market.
Here’s how it looked through the lens of my iPhone 5, upgraded over the weekend to iOS 7.

WLinaF — First time for me, too. Never had swordfish “in the round.” It was perfect for the iPhone shoot. Glad I went “to paradise” to capture it. Feel free to live vicariously through me, I don’t mind at all. 🙂

I’m so happy I had breakfast before looking at your photos. 🙂 Maybe this is where we had our wood fire-cooked pizza so many years ago. But if not, who cares? It was wonderful. Does your hat shop carry women’s hats, too, or is it just a men’s hat shop. I’d love to go there, too.

Janet — Let’s just say Al Paradiso was the place where you had that pizza when you visited Vicenza all those many “luna” ago. About my hat shop, they carry a fine line of women’s head apparel, too, including Stetson!
