It’s All in My Head(er)

In the Beautiful Game — football, or soccer if you prefer — a HEADER is an action by a player down on the pitch to direct the ball off his/her noggin’, sometimes resulting in a goal. OK, Goaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaal!

In WordPress blogging vernacular, the HEADER is that large area at the top of one’s homepage (depending upon your WP theme) reserved for an image(s) and text or a graphic to help you brand your site so that your blog stands out from the crowd.

Lately, I’ve been getting a lot of compliments (thank you very much) and questions on where one HEADER photo that I’ve showcased was taken. Here’s the HEADER in question, labeled H1, taken above the Marina Corricella on the small island of Procida out in the Tyrrhenian Sea not far from the Neapolitan coastline in southern Italy.

It’s one of my favorite HEADER pics, too; but, I get antsy and keep swapping out the photo that occupies my faux Times Square billboard up there frequently.

Having recently added an iPhone 5, with its neat panoramic camera feature, to my kit, I’m finding shots that I take with the phone can quickly be resized into the HEADER’s required 960×270 format. And, that’s why I’m changing the HEADER pic about as often as a stock boy/girl changes cans of soup in a supermarket aisle.

By the time I get your favorable feedback asking where a particular HEADER pic was taken, I’ve probably already swapped it out with another and may be providing you with an incorrect reply due to these frequent changes.

So, to remedy this problem, and have a little fun at the same time, I thought I’d showcase some of the HEADER shots currently in my rotating library, tell you where they were taken, and then let YOU decide which HEADER pic should go up next.

If you’d like to participate, just send me a reply noting the shots, by their respective H-number (H1 through H15), that you’d like see up there on the Jumbotron.

Votes received will be hermetically sealed in a mayonnaise jar, handed over to an independent, fly-by-night auditing firm for tallying, then announced right here on TPT at the end of August. Based on the rank order of the voting results, I’ll then rotate weekly, from the bottom to the top vote getter, until we’ve cycled through them all. By that time, I should have a whole new batch of fresh HEADERs ready to go before the voting public.

Goaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaal!

      1. And that was early voting – I’ll be back. Remember, I live not too far from Chicago.

      1. The real surprise would have been if I’d just picked one. The more I see of the photo options, the more I think there will be an iPhone in my future, as annoying as I find that (and expensive, too, I imagine.) But as Aragorn said in “Lord of the Rings”, that day is not today. 🙂

      2. We’re BIG (not literally, though) LOTR fans. My husband would qualify as pretty near an expert. In fact, when we go to Wyoming this weekend, over the two-day drive, we’ll be listening to the 13-hour BBC fabulous production on CD. We’ve listened to it every single year since I bought it many, many years ago.

      3. I’m sure you’ll be seeing quite a few pictures from the Big Horn Mountains. 🙂 Yes, vacation, our annual one and both girls will be there as well, along with a boyfriend and a friend from England and my parents will pop in, too. Good times!
