This week’s WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge might be focused on the foreground, but it’s all about the blur IN THE BACKGROUND.
In acting, whether it be stage, film or television, there’s always a cadre of extras — actors who appear in non-speaking, non-singing or non-dancing roles in the nosebleed section of the production.
They’re just there as ornamentation to enhance the box office stars holding our attention on center stage or screen. Around the guilds, these heart-beating props are referred to as background talent, background performers, background artists, background cast members, or simply background.
You can spot them holding up the tail-end of a chorus line, scattered around a battlefield in a war movie, filling up a colosseum in a sword-and-sandal flick, or quietly following behind an Academy Award-winning actor in a bio-pic.
These bit players, who will forever remain anonymous and blurred in the background, continue to do their tiny part in the worldwide, billion-plus-dollars industries of television, film and theatre.
Here are a handful of “extras” that took part in a few of my frames, enhancing the look quite a bit.
