It’s the one day out of the year for the family matriarch with kids — from babies to grownups — to be treated like royalty by her offspring.
Breakfast in bed, soggy cornflakes or soufflé; its the thought that counts.
The house spic-‘n’-span, by someone else, and ready for your white-glove inspection.
Maybe dinner and a movie ’cause you’ve been fab 24/7/365.
Regardless of how it turns out on your day-of-days, Happy Mother’s Day to you.
Here in Italy it’s celebrated as Festa della Mamma. And that means Italian mothers — from the Alps to Agrigento — are being treated to lunch somewhere far from their respective kitchens.
Together with my nephew and grandniece, F and A, we treated a few mammas just right today, too: a delicious lunch at Ristorante alla Torre, in the shadows of the ruins of an old castle in the hills overlooking San Zenone degli Ezzelini in the province of Treviso in the Veneto region of the Bel Paese’s northeast.
The lunch was quite nice. The wait staff was superb. The ambience could not have been any better. And my tablemates, the mammas we treated, O and P, got five-star ratings.
Enjoy the virtual sampling of some of the dishes plated before us, and a quick tour of the wine cellar.
BUONA FESTA della MAMMA!

Delightful!
And lucky mammas – the ones you took to lunch, not the ones your threw over the tower.
I was a little short at the register and panicked. What can I say?
I don’t think “I’m sorry” will work.
Such colorful and beautiful photos…no throwing them from the tower (or the train)…fill them until they can’t eat anymore!
Thanks, S51!
Great shots, fun commentary! Well done :0)
Thanks, Tina. I only had the iPhone to work with, and had to work quick as everyone at the table was in a hurry to eat. Hey, a belated Happy Mother’s Day, 2 u, assuming you’re a mommy. 🙂
What a delicious feast for the eyes. Thanks for sharing, Tom. 🙂
Sylvia — Thanks, and a belated Festa della Mamma 2 u, 2. 🙂
