Shooting in the Moment

Melanee of SimpleLifeStuff | ©2013 SimpleLifeStuff.comMelanee, the stocking-capped crusader of SimplyLifeStuff Sometimes it’s the little things — just recognized The Palladian Traveler (TPT) in a nice way by awarding it with a Best Moment Award (BMA).

Melanee’s passing along the BMA to TPT for thoroughly enjoying the photos captured by Tom Palladio Images.

Aw shucks, Melanee, I’m speechless…AGAIN.

If you haven’t sampled Melanee’s blog yet, or haven’t been by lately, make it a point to do so soon. It’s still cold up Colorado and she could use the company.

Best Moment Award 1The BMA is the brainchild of Moment Matters (MM), and is given out to bloggers by bloggers in appreciation for their living in the moment, capturing it and sharing it with others.

As MM states on its awards’ page about living in the moment: “It’s the best thing we’ve got.”

RULES of the Best Moment Award

— Give an acceptance speech. According to MM, lead with Gratitude, Humor or Inspiration. For speech ideas, if you need help, take a look HERE at some well-known award recipients on the dais.

— Winners now have the privilege of bestowing the next awards. Your re-post should include a NEW set of people/blogs worthy of the award. Once announced, notify your nominees and tell them the great news!

I’d like to pay-it-forward and present the BMA to the following “light writers” whose lens acumen have caught my eye during my daily runs through the blogosphere:

Emily of Belle Remy Photography

Leanne of Leanne Cole Photography

Tina of Travels & Trifles

Pat of A New Day

Paul of Ambling around Brisbane (I know you won’t accept, but…)

Harold of Through Harold’s Lens

Stéphane of My French Heaven, an “effervescent” master of food photography

Lisa with a Z of Playamart

Cee of Cee’s Photography and curator of the weekly Fun Foto Challenge

Sue of A Word in Your Ear and curator of the weekly A Word-a-Week Challenge

Ailsa of Where’s My Backpack? and curator of the weekly Travel Theme Challenge

Marianne of East of  Málaga and curator of the monthly Conejo Blanco Blog Hop

Bailey Blue of Bailey Boat Cat, the most photogenic feline to ever sail the Mediterranean

— As an award recipient, you can now display the BMA badge on your blog/website, downloadable HERE.

ACCEPTANCE SPEECH

In accepting the BMA, and because Melanee awarded it to TPT for photography, I’ll lead with Gratitude and cite my Uncle Sam for giving me my start behind the lens.

Uncle Sam-US Army recruiting posterOne day, wearing a top hat to match his red-white-and-blue, long-tailed suit, he stared straight into my 20-year-old eyes, pointed at me and said, “Son, I want you.”

I was drafted on the spot, shipped off to journalism school then spent a three-year hitch in the U.S. Army — postings in Germany and Italy — as a military photo-print-broadcast journalist.

For someone so young, it was the best time of my life as I honed my craft under the tutelage of some seasoned pros — writers, photographers, editors, producers and directors — and traveled all around Europe, on Uncle Sugar’s dime, with my trusty Pentax Spotmatic film camera.

Thanks again Sam — and the cadre of professionals who mentored me — for giving me my start, and my life some much-needed direction.

  1. Lucky you! I was supposed to be a journalist, too and then the Air Force discovered I could code break and had a head for electronics.

  2. Hey Tom, thanks for the nod! More impressed by your story of how you got your start! That’s neat!! No wonder you’re so darned clever!!

  3. Oh my, Tom, you have been doing this for a llllllllllooooonnnnnnnnngggggggggg time. What a wonderful opportunity for a 20 year old. Much better to be behind and shooting a camera than a gun. Thanks for telling a part of your story. And also thanks for passing it along to me. I have a few to collect and am planning to do it within a month when I celebrate my first year blogday.

  4. You are truly too sweet Tom, and thank you so very much for sharing this award with me. I made sure you got full credit yesterday with my 500th post. You’ve been more than generous and kind with me. I appreciate meeting you and your fellowship. Look forward to sharing much more with you in the future.

  5. Congratulations Tom and thank you for the pingback. My apologies for the delay, for some reason it arrived in my spam folder. Your smiling face and the glass of wine caught my attention before I hit delete.
