For most of us hailing from the Northern Hemisphere, spring weather has finally arrived.
For those of you still waiting to see the sidewalk out front, sorry.
And, for those of you just above, along or just below the Equator’s midriff, this post is definitely not for you, unless, in another life and locale, you used to weather winter’s blasts and prayed for spring’s hastened arrival.
As you know, it was only a few days ago that Old Man Winter was still lurking around my borgo (neighborhood), keeping spring at bay with cold, damp and rainy weather. Then, in an instant — like a horde of traveling salesmen on a Friday afternoon turning in their rental cars and boarding planes for return flights back to suburbia — POOF! OMW packed his bags and left town with nary a goodbye note.
For the next few weeks, maybe a month, or for as long as spring wards off the sizzlin’ summer-like weather that’ll eventually arrive, I’m going to allow my closet to pull the cotton over my eyes.
For me, nothing says spring — a.k.a. “sweater weather” — better than a nice, light and soft, long-sleeve V-neck pullover with a color-coordinated tee underneath.
As with shoes, eyeglasses and blue shirts, I don’t lack for V-neck pullovers either. If anything, I have way too many. And, I just added to the GNP — Gross National Pullover — as I picked up a few more sweaters at an upscale clothing store just around the corner.
With a 50%-off sale inside — promoted as Fashion Week — and warm weather outside, I just couldn’t resist. When the dust settled on the damage I had done, I walked out with a stack of NAVY (dark blue), PETROLIO (petroleum pastel blue), PRATO MELANGE (light field green) and VISONE (mink brown) colored V-neck pullovers.
Like the labels and string tags on my latest acquisitions state — PULL [some] LOVE [over yourself] — go on and add a splash of color to your wardrobe and welcome in the arrival of spring. Follow my lead and PULL the cotton OVER your eyes with a smart looking V-neck sweater.
Now, about those socks…

Now I need one in green – to match the envy showing through my makeup. Nothing soothes the soul and brightens the spirit like a light-weight, soft cotton sweater. Have you seen bamboo clothing? I saw some socks at the Artisan Center at Berea KY that were made from bamboo and hand died delicious shades – they were oh so soft and $18.00 a pair. I feel a post perking up on socks.
Pat — Green with envy over my post? I’ve not had the pleasure to sport bamboo socks. Don’t know if they hit the shores of fashion conscious Italy, but I’ll keep an eye out for them.
Am I hearing a note of arrogance????? Is the fashion conscious Italy too good for bamboo socks? They were so lush. After responding to your post I have been considering calling and having them send me a pair. I do have a weakness for socks – and they are cheaper than shoes.
And yes, maybe I’m a little green (very pale) with envy over your post – but I really do want your sweaters. I’ve had a hard time finding light-weight cotton sweaters for women. Part of my problem is that I don’t enjoy shopping. 🙁

Tina — I’ve learned, albeit slowly, to wear more colorful sweaters. Hard to avoid pastels here in Italy where everyone wears pretty bright colors, like the shades they paint their houses. That said, I will accept your “vote of confidence.” 🙂

As for socks…also one of the rites of spring is the pleasure of slipping on loafers sans socks.
