During the French Revolution of the late 1700s, as the populace rose up in anger over the shortage of bread and the ongoing famine occurring nationwide, Queen Marie Antoinette, the wife of King Louis XVI, supposedly reacted with an arrogant reply, Qu’ils mangent de la BRIOCHE! (Let them eat CAKE!).
Most scholars of note dispute the attribution, writing that the quote from the Queen’s lips was just a fabrication born out of frustration by the majority of the French who were vehemently opposed to the incompetent No. 16 and the decadent aristocracy.
In short, they — radicals on the left, protesting masses in the city streets and peasants out in the countryside — wanted the King and his court to close up shop at Versailles.
Perhaps it was CAKE — or the lack of it — that rallied the French to rise up and form the Republic, similar to those bags of TEA that sparked the other revolution across The Pond.
CAKE of a different stripe is the real main course of this post, while the French Revolution footnote is but an hors d’oeuvre.
Remember that certain little four-legged friend that I was so smitten by last summer? Tiramisu?
Well, Misu, for short, named after the Italian pick-me-up dessert CAKE, posed for the camera while she was my “house guest,” and one of her photos has just been entered in the 6th RodPosse Challenge (RPC). The theme this time around is Animals in Our Life.
Rather than cast your vote for an “old buccaneer in a puffy shirt,” perhaps you’ll do the same for this animal-less animal lover.
If you’d like to vote, just click HERE and it’ll take you to my entry page. Once there, just click the LIKE button. Merci beaucoup.
If you’d care to join in the fun and showcase a photo of your own pet, just click HERE to enter. It’s easy. It’s simple. What are you waiting for?
It’s debatable whether or not Marie Antoinette told the peasants to eat CAKE during the French Revolution, but if Tiramisu’s photo-shoot pose is the winning entry in the 6th RPC, then I guess I’ll be able to report back that you can have your CAKE and eat it, too.

Who wouldn’t vote for this cutie pie!
You? 🙂
Of course I would vote for such a charming pup. Love Marie Antoinette. She truly was a rebel in her time. So elegant, but yet so decadent.
Thanks Emily!
